A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
