Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach commented.

“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”

He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
