Sweden Team Reveal: Isak Selected Whereas Gyokeres Excluded
The striker joined the Gunners from Sporting during the offseason
Gunners striker Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted from Graham Potter's maiden Swedish national squad, while Reds forward Alexander Isak received inclusion
Gyokeres is set to undergo more assessments in the coming days following worries he sustained a thigh issue during Arsenal's Premier League victory at the Clarets on Saturday
Gyokeres sat out Arsenal' European success against Slavia Prague earlier this week
Alexander Isak Makes Comeback
The Liverpool striker, absent from action from late October because of a groin injury, made the squad for World Cup qualifying fixtures versus Switzerland (November 15th) and Slovenia (18 November)
Additional Premier League Call-ups
- Tottenham playmaker Lucas Bergvall, currently rehabilitating from a head injury
- Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga
Both athletes were included in Potter's England-based contingent chosen under former Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham manager Graham Potter
The New Manager's Hiring
The English manager was appointed the Swedish federation first temporarily on 20 October, under a month after he was dismissed by West Ham
Previous coach Jon Dahl Tomasson lost his job after Sweden's 1-0 loss against the Kosovan team in mid-October, a result that ended automatic qualification from their World Cup group impossible
Current Standing
The Swedish team are currently bottom of Group B having only one point in four matches
Even if they don't manage to finish second, they may yet take part in the World Cup play-offs as a result thanks to their showing during the previous UEFA competition
