The Details Known Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 individuals perished and more than 40 were wounded when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local police have called a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, officials have stated the death toll remains at 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were transported to hospital.

The deceased have not yet been formally identified, but investigators think their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Known as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She recounted the moments before the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was a fatality during the attack, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with five in serious condition. Those hurt include two police officers who responded to the attack.

A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
