The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure Regarding Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Response
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
The platform has recommended to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Modifications
Earlier, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
